Kimberly Smith Receives Teaching and Research Award

 The Arkansas Alumni Association honored faculty members with Distinguished Faculty Achievement awards for their accomplishments in teaching, research and public service. SICB treasurer-elect Kimberly Smith, a professor in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, received the Teaching and Research Award. Smith has been on the biological sciences faculty as a community ecologist since 1981 and has been involved in revamping the biology and ecology programs. He has served as chairman of the biological sciences curriculum committee for three years.

David Wake Inducted to American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Former ASZ president David Wake was recently inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences at a ceremony in Cambridge, Mass. The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is an honorary society founded in 1780 by John Adams. The academy recognizes achievement in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities and conducts a varied program of projects and studies responsive to the needs and problems of society. Wake is currently the director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California, Berkeley.

Marvalee Wake Appointed Chancellor's Professor

Marvalee Wake has been appointed a Chancellor's Professor of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Chancellor's Professor is an endowed professorship awarded in recognition of distinguished achievements of the highest level of teaching. With her appointment, she received a stipend that she will use for research in integrative biology, particularly for support of graduate student research that is at the interface of morphology development, function and evolution.
