Dr. Charlotte Mangum Donation to Support Students
To help support students interested in attending the SICB Annual Meetings, Past
President Charlotte Mangum has generously listed SICB as the beneficiary of her life
insurance policy. This gift to SICB will be used to provide student support for the SICB
Annual Meetings, particularly towards travel.
Dr. Mangum has contributed greatly to SICB/ASZ, holding positions on the Executive
Committee and serving as President in 1994. In addition, she has been active in DCPB and
is the journal editor-in-chief of Physiological Zoology.
The Society thanks Charlotte Mangum for her generous contribution to SICB and our
future scientists.
SICB Annual Meeting Dates
Historically, SICB has held its Annual Meeting during the last week in December.
Starting with the next meeting, all Annual Meetings will be held in early January versus
right after the Christmas holiday. Because of this change in scheduling, there will not be
an Annual Meeting held during the calendar year of 1997.
January 3-7, 1998
Boston Marriott Copley Place
Boston, Mass.
January 6-10, 1999
Adam's Mark Denver
Denver, Colo.
Divisional Affiliation Change
Please note that beginning with the 1998 renewal cycle this fall, SICB will be moving
to a two-primary divisional affiliation system. Members will be allowed to choose up to a
maximum of two (2) divisional affiliations. However, members may opt to choose only
one (1) divisional affiliation if so desired. There will no longer be
"secondary" affiliations. Members will be allowed to vote in both divisions of
their choice.
Membership Update
SICB Renewal Policy
Beginning with the Boston 1998 meeting, SICB Annual Meetings will be moving to January.
SICB's registration policy states that in order to qualify for member registration rates,
SICB membership must be current for the year in which the Annual Meeting is being held.
Therefore, beginning with the 1998 renewal cycle, members will need to be renewed for the
following year at the time they register if they want to attend the January meeting at the
member rate. If members have not renewed when they submit their registration, they will be
informed that they need to remit membership dues before being allowed to register at the
member rate.
Members who register on-site and who are not renewed will be directed to the membership
booth where they can remit payment for their dues. They will receive a receipt to take to
the registration desk to certify that they are a current member of the Society.
Please contact the SICB Business Office if you have any questions about these changes.
