SICB Gans Significant Contribution Award

Thank you for nominating a publication for the Significant Contribution Award, one of two Gans Awards. Purpose of the award: Recognize a significant contribution to the literature of comparative biomechanics published in the preceding five calendar years, including, but not limited to, research papers, review articles, and published books. Eligible contributions must bear a publication date in their official citation (as listed by the publisher) no earlier than 2018.

As nominator, it is your responsibility to (1) provide the information and materials requested in this form, (2) solicit three letters of recommendation, and (3) make sure that all three letters have been submitted by 30 August 2023.

Letters of recommendation. Please ask letter writers to explain why they think that the contribution is significant with respect to the literature of comparative biomechanics. Significance may include, but is not limited to, the contribution’s scope, creativity, and broader impacts.

When selecting letter writers, please avoid conflicts of interest. Letters should be from people who (1) are not active collaborators of any author on the contribution, (2) have not co-authored a paper with any author on the contribution within the past four years, and (3) are not colleagues with the contributors at any of the contributors’ institutions. Please query the letter writers directly about possible conflicts when making the request.

As nominator, you may write one of the letters if you also do not have a conflict of interest. Because self-nominations are allowed, nominators may be disqualified for writing a letter of recommendation and, at the same time, remain eligible to nominate the contribution.
