SICB Gans Award Young Investigator
Applications for the Gans award are due annually on August 30 - you can find information about this award here: https://sicb.org/awards/the-carl-gans-award/Thank you for nominating yourself or a colleague for the Young Investigator Award, one of two Gans Awards. Purpose of award: Recognize an outstanding young investigator for distinguished contributions to the field of comparative biomechanics.
Eligibility: Anyone receiving their Ph.D. in 2016 or later is eligible. The one exception is that candidates must not have previously received the Bartholomew Award.
Please note that materials are due by Wednesday, 30 August 2023.
As nominator, it is your responsibility to (1) provide the information and materials requested in this form, (2) solicit three letters of recommendation, and (3) make sure that all three letters have been submitted by 30 August 2023.
Letters of recommendation should be submitted directly by each recommender to Brooke Flammang and M. Laura Hebegger at chair.dcb@sicb.org and secretary.dcb@sicb.org respectively. If the nominator is the candidate, three letters of recommendation are required. If the nominator is not the candidate, then a letter of support is required from the nominator as well as two additional letters of recommendation.
Please share this information with the letter writers for the Young Investigator Award. When recommending the candidate, please address the criteria that the Gans Award Committee will use for their evaluation: Does the candidate’s research in comparative biomechanics: (1) exemplify a unique vision? (2) use creative approaches? Does the candidate: (3) have a strong record of high-quality scientific publications, relative to career stage? (4) engage in education, outreach, and science communication activities at local, national, and/or international levels? (5) contribute to efforts to improve equity and diversity in science? (6) have a strong mentoring track record?
