GUIDELINES
Dear Student Support Applicant:
Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting your application to participate in the Charlotte Mangum Student Support Program for the upcoming Annual Meeting. In order to be eligible for Student Support you must fulfill all of the following:
- Be an undergraduate student member or graduate student member of SICB for 2023/2024. (2024 Membership year is 07/01/2023 to 06/30/2024)
- Be the presenting author (i.e., have submitted an abstract for the 2024 Annual Meeting). Only one person per abstract (the presenting author) may apply/receive program support.
- Plan to attend the upcoming SICB Annual Meeting. (Housing Support applicants should register now. Registration Support applicants should wait to register until a special link is sent by Raelene Sok.)
- Complete the application form in its entirety before the deadline (October 26, 2023).
- Provide name and email address of your faculty advisor; and,
- Provide up to one-half day of assistance to SICB during the Annual Meeting.
Registration Support: DO NOT REGISTER/PAY FOR REGISTRATION FOR THE MEETING. A special promo code will be sent to you. Registration support for 2024 SICB is a reduction in the fee by $125 - you will receive a promo code making your registration fee $65. Your abstract will not be canceled if you “miss” the registration date and you will not miss any early-fee pricing. Applying to the Mangum Program is a placeholder for you so neither your poster or talk will be canceled. Ignore the Nov. 1 Presenter Deadline and the Dec. 1 Early Fee Deadline. If you have already registered you may still apply for Mangum support but email Raelene Sok at sicbstudents@sicb.org ASAP. Registration support applicants SHOULD make their lodging arrangements now.
Housing Support: DO NOT MAKE A HOTEL RESERVATION until you receive the specific Mangum Program hotel reservation link. Housing support applicants SHOULD register for the meeting now.
SICB will continue to give additional control of roommate decisions to students. This will give students more flexibility and make it easier for students to room with a colleague they know and, in particular, with whom they share expectations related to COVID and general health and safety measures.
Housing Fees
note: “copay” is not per night, it is once for the entire stay
4 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $95
3 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $125
2 Mangum awardees per room: each student’s copay will be $250
1 Mangum awardee per room: student’s copay will be $500
Again, if you apply for the Mangum housing support, you will need to reserve your room using a special hotel link that we will send to you. DO NOT reserve your room on your own. You must use the link sent to you. When using the special link you will be asked for a credit card to hold the room but your credit card will not be charged at reservation. (Link will be included within the award notification email after the application deadline.) SICB will only pay for Mangum housing for those who use the specific housing link. We know that some attendees may not know others with whom they might share a room. If you are in this situation, we will try to help you connect with others also looking for a roommate. More information will be included with your Mangum award notification.
The housing award covers five (5) nights (January 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, 2024) during the Annual Meeting. Early arrivals and/or late departures are at the individual's own expense at the SICB Annual Meeting room rates. ANY DAMAGE TO THE ROOM WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT.
If you are granted support of any type through the Charlotte Mangum Student Support Program you are obligated to provide the equivalent of one-half day of assistance during the meeting; failure to fulfill your obligation will cause immediate cancellation of your support and notification sent to your academic advisor/sponsor.
All student support recipients must attend an in-person training meeting prior to the annual meeting. Training meeting: January 2, 2024, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Room: Seattle Convention Center, Ballroom 6 B&C. If your travel plans conflict please email Raelene Sok at sicbstudents@sicb.org.
The application form requires you to be a current SICB student member. Please sign in below.
