Chris Martine (chair) and Chris Muir (secretary)

We are keeping this newsletter short and sweet. First we would like to update you on our DOB elections. A huge thanks to all those who ran (Ulrike Müller, Michael McKain, Morgan Furze, and Lena Hileman) and to all members who voted!!! We are excited that Ulrike Müller will serve as Chair-Elect and Morgan Furze will serve at Program Officer-Elect starting in 2022. Please be sure to introduce yourselves to them in Phoenix if you’re attending.

We are “all systems go” for an in-person meeting in Phoenix in January! Registration is open, and the program will be coming out shortly. After the success of last year’s virtual meeting, we are adding a virtual component that will follow the in-person meeting called SICB+. DOB will have a Best Student Oral Presentation competition during the in-person meeting, and a Best Student Poster Presentation competition that will continue into the SICB+ virtual meeting.  We have more plant talks than ever in sessions across the program. Five symposia have at least one talk that includes plants, and many symposia will have content of interest to our members. If you aren’t planning to attend in person, stay tuned for information about SICB+, which will bring the SICB meeting right into your own office.

Hi DOB students and postdocs! As SICB 2022 is quickly approaching, I wanted to highlight some events that may be of interest to you. Please stay tuned for dates and details!

  • SPDAC’s workshop: Science Communication
  • SPDAC’s booth: Informal chats with division officers and scientists
  • DOB’s social event

This is my last meeting as your SPDAC rep and it has been a pleasure getting to know you all! If you are interested in serving on the SPDAC committee, please reach out to me or any DOB officer for more details.
